bryce canyon and zion national parks

October 8, 2008

Southern Utah was quite a pleasant surprise to us. The scenery was the most magnificent we have ever seen...the Grand Canyon sure has high standards to meet. These pillars of rock, created by erosion, are called Hoodoos because they cast a spell on all those who see them. Driving through Zion National Park with the camper gave us some special challenges. The roads were narrow we had to pay $15 to get a permit for a "special" escort through the tunnels. Since the camper was too wide the rangers had to stop two way traffic and we had to use both lanes through the one-mile tunnel.

arizona - grand canyon, painted desert, petrified forest, sedona, and williams

October 10-13, 2008

Our home base was Williams, Arizona for three days (of course to watch the Georgia-Tennessee game Saturday). Williams is a really cool, old historic town where Route 66 still exists. We ate at an old saloon type restaurant and enjoyed interacting with the locals. There were wind advisories the entire time we were in Williams with 45mph wind gusts. We visited the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest on our way to New Mexico well worth the visit.
