OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK - NORTHERN PENINSULA OF WASHINGTON STATE
September 22, 2008
Our drive around the outer ring of Olympic Park took us through vast forests of evergreen trees and rain forests. On a rotation basis every fifty years, sections of the forest are cut down and re-planted. Signs identified when the forest was cut down, when it was re-planted, and when the next harvest would occur. Logging is the major industry in this part of the country we saw many logging trucks hauling cut down trees and the beaches were full of old fallen down trees.
victoria ON VANCOUVER iSLAND, BRITISH COLUMBIA (CANADA)
September 24, 2008
Victoria was a 90 minute ferry ride from Port Angeles, WA. We took the first morning ferry over and returned on the last evening ferry. The city of Victoria was very British and so pretty. As we drove around the island we were amazed how clean and manicured it was. Butchart Gardens was absolutely beautiful - we will need a planting budget next spring to landscape our log house so beautifully (at least I got some great ideas - Dick sat in his truck with Yargo as flowers are not his forte).
OREGON COAST
September 27-28, 2008
The Oregon coast had all types of land forms - rocks, sand dunes, coves, beaches, and cliffs. We encountered a seal cove and could hear them before we could see them. We stopped in Newport at the bay front for some chowder.
