JUNEAU
This was our absolute favorite port. Wish we could have stayed longer. Immediately after docking, we started our excursion, boarded a sea plane and flew over the five massive glaciers, part of the Juneau Icefield, to Taku Lodge. The chef was already grilling the fresh Wild Alaska King Salmon when we arrived. Absolutely delicious! The pilot asked Dick if he wanted to "be" the co-pilot on our trip back to Juneau, scary! We only had 90 minutes before the ship was leaving port after we arrived back in Juneau, just enough time to stop in the Red Dog Saloon for a quick beer, some music, sing a longs, and a few laughs. The atmosphere was fun saw dusted floors, cute signs and decor, and the one man band live entertainment.
GLACIER BAY
Stunning, COLD, and the thunderous sound of huge chunks of glacier breaking free and crashing into the Bay, unbelievable.
KETCHIKAN
This was our first port of call after traveling through the Inside Passage and Glacier Bay. We took the walking route along the shoreline, on to Creek Street, a wooden boardwalk populated with shops, museums, galleries, and restaurants.
SITKA
Sitka is a beautiful seaside town with historical ties to the Kiksadi Tlingit Indians and Russians. Our ship could not dock in Sitka so we had to use tender boats to get to shore. We walked around the harbor, taking in the views of Mount Edgecombe, a dormant volcano.
VALDEZ
Valdez, the largest port in Prince William Sound, was absolutely beautiful, surrounded by mountains and glaciers. It was hard to believe there was so much devastation in 1989 when the infamous oil spill occurred.
