Costa Rica April 2025

This spring we took off to the land of lush rainforests, unique wildlife, volcanoes, waterfalls, cloud forests, and the adrenaline rush of zip lining. Where else could that be….COSTA RICA!

Our first impression on landing in San Jose was “this country is awful.” Immediately upon checking into our hotel we hopped a cab to downtown for a “foodie” tour. An hour and a half to go 7 miles! Walking would have been better. The tour itself was great, food and atmosphere outstanding! But San Jose, not so. All part of seeing the country though.

Off to Arenal. We loved the town, restaurants, and activities. Our hotel was super nice, located at the base of the volcano. It was great drinking around the pool taking in all the beautiful scenery. The rainforest was cool, walking across hanging bridges, and scouting out all the native wildlife with the tour guide. Soaking in the hot springs here took away all the stress of driving through San Jose!

Leaving the rainforest of Arenal behind, we headed to the cloud forest of Monteverde. Part of the adventure in getting there was a boat ride across Arenal Lake the scenery was beautiful! Our resort was situated on the side of a mountain and most times the only way to get around was to call the shuttle. Zip lining was always on our bucket list we got the opportunity here to ride the “Sky Trek” across 10 zip lines along the top of the trees. It was super fun! What surprised us the most was how fast you were still going when approaching the end point. Another check off our bucket list!

Driving back to San Jose for our flight home was quite the adventure! The roads were rough, absolutely the worst we have ever seen. Between the locals crazy driving, no one following road laws, navigating around all the pot holes, and mountain roads along the cliffs, we felt so lucky to make it back alive. That night we toasted having survived the challenge of driving in Costa Rica, and were thankful for our great driver!

Until next time, “Pura Vida!”
