Our last stop before beginning our trek back east, was Eagle Nest, NM. Leaving Torrey, we encountered a severe storm as dangerous as it was driving, the views were pretty cool. We passed through open range, and had to dodge cows in the road. As we drove south from Grand Junction, CO, we passed through Gunnison, CO and wished we planned to stop there for a couple of days. Next time for sure, we’ll just have to make another journey out west again. Closing in on Eagle Nest, passing through Red River, the roads became very narrow, hilly, with close turns. This area, being part of the Taos Ski Valley, had a lot of “unique” stores and restaurants. We were debating on taking a day trip to Taos, but decided against it thinking it was similar to what we saw in Red River and not wanting to drive through the narrow roads again. Our campground in Eagle Nest was very quiet, surrounded by real pretty scenery, and the town itself had a great, down to earth, very good restaurant for dinner!
