BOWERSVILLE, GA

Bowersville is located at the foot of the Northeast Georgia Mountains, in HART County, seven miles outside of Hartwell. It was incorporated on September 4th, 1883.

HISTORY

Bowersville used to be the county seat of HART County however, today not much remains except a few houses and a church. A fire in 1888 destroyed many businesses, and the only hotel in town. The local post office resides in what used to be a bank. The old train depot is now a local cabinet business. An old hardware store in the center of town is deserted. A railroad track runs though the center of town, serving a privately owned train that comes through daily.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION

In the fall of 2009, the movie "The Greening of Whitney Brown" was filmed in downtown Bowersville. The story centers on a spoiled city girl whose family moves to the country, where she develops a special relationship with a horse. The production company chose Bowersville as the filming location because they were looking for a spot that was level enough along railroad tracks for a horse to gallop along side. The film starred Brooke Shields and Kris Kristofferson to name a few.
